Google Maps AR : Is This The Future Of Navigation?

Whether you live in a traffic filled city or are just visiting someplace or in a rush to attend a meeting, finding a specific location can be a bit difficult. Well Google has come up with an excellent solution. 

And it is an integrated augmented reality (AR) mode for walking navigation known now as Google Maps Live View, available to a wider range of Android phones and the Iphone. The AR walking Directions shows real-time navigation in Google Maps.

This was first announced at Google I/O 2018, and it’s finally making its way to

the Maps app. The company has now made it available for any Android phone that supports ARCore and any iPhone that supports ARKit.

First of all what is AR (Augmented Reality)? For starters, let’s just discuss about that real quick-It’s when you can see virtual icons and images (images or animations) layered over the real world. 
For example “Pokemon Go” is a game based on the concept of AR. In this case, these virtual icons are seen through the Google Maps app, with the help of the camera on the back of your phone. 

This is also known as ‘superimposing’. "AR", "ARKit", "ARCore" these terms may not be fully understandable to you, BUT ! Don't worry about that ‘cause I've got you covered. Let’s discuss about Augmented Reality in detail in another post for sure. For now everything is explained simpler for you to understand.

ඔබ ජීවත් වෙන්නේ විශාල නගයරක ද , එහෙම නැත්තම් වැදගත් ගමනක් යන ගමන් ද ? 

කාර්යභහුල වෙලාවක කොතැනට හරි ඉක්මනින් යාගන්න උවමනා ද ? යන දිශාව/හරි ස්ථානය හොයාගන්න බැරිවුන ඒ මොහොත ට අපි හැමෝම මුහුණ දීලා තියෙනවා නේද? 

මේකට Google ආයතනය විසදුමක් ගෙනත් තිබෙනවා . Google වෙතින් අලුතින්ග් නිර්මානය කරන ලද අලුත් තාක්ෂණයක් තමයි Google Maps AR කියන්නේ. Google Maps Live View ලෙසත් මෙය හඳුන්වනවා. 

මෙය මුලින්ම ලෝකයට හඳුන්වාදුන්නේ Google I/O , 2018 හිදි ය .මෙම තාක්ෂණය ඔවුන්ගේ Google Maps app  එකට ඇතුලත් කරන්න ඔවුන් බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා . ඔයලා මේ ගැන දැනටමත් අහල ඇති. අද අපි මේ ගැන කතා කරමු . 

මුලින්ම අපි මේ AR / (Augmented Reality) කියන එකේ තේරුම හඳුනාගනිමු. සරලවම කිව්වොත් ; phone එකේ අපට screen එකෙන් දක්න්ට ලැබෙන images සහ animations , ඇත්ත ලෝකයේ දේවල්  සමග එකතු වෙලා පේනවා camera එක හරහා .

මෙය " superimpose " කියලා අර්ථ දක්වනවා. උදාහරණයට ගතහොත් , "POKEMON GO" කියන game එකත් මේ concept එකට අනුව නිර්මාණය කරපු එකක්.හොදයි දැන් ඔබට තවත් පැහැදිලි ඇති!

මෙම තාක්ෂණය ARCore support කරන Android phones වලට ද ARKit support කරන iPhones වලට ද වැඩ කරනවා. "AR (Augmented Reality)", "ARcore", "ARKit" යන වචන වල තේරුම් ඔයාලා කල්පනා කරනවා ඇති. 

Augmented Reality ගැන විස්තරාත්මකව අපි තවත් post එකකින් අනිවාර්යෙන් කතා කරමු, දැනට මං සඳහන් කරන කරුණු වලින් හොඳටම තේරුම් යයි කියා මම බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා.

Using AR Mode and their safety hack – How do you use Google Maps AR?

·        Enter the location and tap on the AR view, and the camera will launch. You’ll need to pan your phone in a sweeping motion slowly so the camera can see the buildings and signs around you. It will take a few seconds, as the camera is scanning the surroundings.

·        Once it is scanned, you will also see a giant virtual marker on the street you’re on, telling you which direction to head. Then move your phone around, and you can see the next marker/location where you’re trying to go.

·        It also gives audio notifications to make it easier.

·        If you're pointing the wrong way, Google Maps AR will either show you a hug arrow directing you in a different direction. Move your phone around to see what the indicator is alerting you.

·        You can't walk keeping your phone up and pointing at the street always.

     Therefore Google has taken this security measure while you’re walking. Google Maps will tell you to put your phone down so you can see where you’re going clearly,if you don't, Maps will blank out the screen till you do.But as soon as you put your phone back up, it will automatically turn on the AR Mode again.

          As you reach a new virtual marker, you’ll get more audio notifications. Move your camera around and you’ll see the next marker and you will eventually reach your destination. It’s simple to use AR Mode is meant to help you find your way quickly if you’re unsure which direction to head. It sure saves a lot of time if you are in a hurry.

කොහොමද AR Maps use කරන්නේ ?

• AR view කියන button එක click කරන්න. ඊටපස්සේ camera එක open වෙනවා. Phone camera එකට වටපිටාව හසු වෙන විදිහට හිමින් එහාට මෙහාට phone එක හරවන්න එවිට camera එකෙන් ගොඩනැගිලි, නම්, සහ සන්චඥා scan වෙනවා.

• ඉන්පසු අපිට screen එකේ ඊතල සන්චඥාවකින් අපි ඉන්න වීදියේ ඉඳන් , යන්න ඕන දිශාව පෙන්නුම් කරනවා. ඉදිරියට ඇවිදන් යන ගමන් phone එක දෙපැත්තට හරවා ඊලනග මාවත හෝ වංගුව හොයාගන්න පුළුවන්.

• Audio notification එකක් මගින් ඊළඟට හැරෙන දිශාව ද ඇහෙන්නට ලැබෙනවා.

• අපි වැරදි දිශාවක ගමන් කරොත් , ලොකු ඊතලයක් මගින් දිශාව වැරදි කියා අපිව  දැනුවත් කරනවා.

• පාරේ යනවිට phone එකේ instructions දෙසම  බලාගෙන අපිට ඇවිදින්න බැහැ අනතුරක් සිදුවෙන්න පුළුවන් නිසා.

 

එම නිසා ආරක්ෂක පියවර Google ල අරන්  තියෙනවා . සැරින් සැරේට අපට indicate කරනවා phone එක දිගටම බැලීමෙන් වලකින්න කියල . 
නමුත් අපි දිගටම phone එක දිහා බලන් ගමන් කෙරුවොත් screen එක auto off වෙනවා .

අලුත් ස්ථානයට ආවට පස්සේ , audio notifications මගින් නැවත නැවත අපිව දැනුවත් කරනවා .Phone එක දෙපැත්තට හරවලා ඊළඟ ඊතලය පෙන්නුම් කරන දිශාවට හෝ location එක වෙත ඇවිදැන් යන්න පුළුවන් . කලබල කාරී වෙලාවක නම් audio notifications අපිට තවත් වැදගත් වෙනවා.

How Google Maps AR works ? What happens actually ?

Google Maps AR is designed to let you use augmented reality to help you navigate when walking .What does that mean? It uses the rear camera of the phone to identify where you are, superimposing direction and details on the display, rather than just presenting you with a map.

Once you hit the ‘AR View’ button, the AR page will open then AI identifies what is around you by scanning with your camera, while the GPS helps put in position on the map and the best route will be calculated. 

Google Maps AR helps the problem of not knowing which way to walk because AR can point you to head in the right way.

මේ හැමදේටම AI තාක්ෂනය පාවිච්චි වෙනවා කියල හැමෝම දැනුවත් ඇති . මෙතැනදී වෙන්නේ, අපට camera එකෙන් පෙනෙන දේවල් AI විසින් හදුනාගෙන , ඒ සමගම GPS satellites මගින් හඳුනාගන්න ගොඩනැගිලි අනුව අපේ location එක හරි position එකට ගැනීමයි.
